\u00ab\u00a0<\/span>Amongst the Low and Empty<\/span>\u00a0\u00bb est d\u00e9j\u00e0 le 5\u00e8me album des am\u00e9ricains. Pourquoi d\u00e9j\u00e0 ? Il faut remonter en 2016 pour la sortie de leur tout premier album : vous avez bien fait le calcul, en seulement 7 ans, ils ont d\u00e9j\u00e0 sorti 5 albums. Et seulement un seul membre du groupe est l\u00e0 depuis le d\u00e9but, autant dire qu’il y a eu un sacr\u00e9 turn over chez <\/span>SOTS<\/span>. Cet album est le d\u00e9but d’une nouvelle \u00e8re pour le groupe. En effet, puisqu’ils viennent de signer chez <\/span>Century Media<\/span> (dont le catalogue typ\u00e9 deathcore commence par \u00eatre bien rempli) et sortent d’une tourn\u00e9e intensive et r\u00e9ussie apr\u00e8s leur dernier album \u00ab\u00a0<\/span>Absolvere<\/span>\u00ab\u00a0. Les voil\u00e0, donc, regonfl\u00e9s \u00e0 bloc pour d\u00e9fendre ce nouvel album. Fini les cr\u00e9atures sordides ou autres pochettes macabres, ce nouveau visuel se veut tr\u00e8s \u00e9pur\u00e9, on se demande m\u00eame ce qu’on regarde ? En sera-t-il de m\u00eame pour le c\u00f4t\u00e9 musical ? R\u00e9ponse maintenant !<\/span><\/b>

L’album attaque fort, tr\u00e8s fort m\u00eame, avec le morceau \u00e9ponyme. La premi\u00e8re section rythmique se veut extr\u00eamement puissante. Justement c’est en ce premier point que j’aimerais f\u00e9liciter le groupe : la production est bien plus impressionnante que par le pass\u00e9, le son est bien plus massif et travaill\u00e9 et le mix en est la preuve parfaite. Cela annoncerait-t-il l’album de la maturit\u00e9 ? Il est trop t\u00f4t pour le dire mais ce premier morceau donne envie de continuer le voyage. Alors qu’on approche de la fin du premier morceau, voil\u00e0 que mon visage se fissure, ma m\u00e2choire s’ouvre en grand et qu’un grand \u00ab\u00a0wow\u00a0\u00bb s’en \u00e9chappe. Le break de fin est absolument dantesque, lourd, sans concession et surprenant par l’ajout de sons \u00e9lectroniques. Il finira certainement par \u00eatre nomm\u00e9 dans les \u00ab\u00a0heaviest breakdown of 2023\u00a0\u00bb, \u00e7a c’est s\u00fbr ! Et oui tout \u00e7a pour un premier morceau, \u00e7a frappe tr\u00e8s tr\u00e8s fort ! \u00ab\u00a0<\/span>Tower of Torsos<\/span>\u00a0\u00bb se d\u00e9marque par son refrain ultra catchy et la volont\u00e9 du groupe de diversifier leur son : l’ajout de sons \u00e9lectroniques est l\u00e0 aussi utilis\u00e9 et surtout, est utilis\u00e9 \u00e0 bon escient. Ce deuxi\u00e8me morceau est une nouvelle r\u00e9ussite. \u00ab\u00a0<\/span>Pray for Death<\/span>\u00a0\u00bb est le synonyme pur et simple de \u00ab\u00a0deathcore\u00a0\u00bb : c’est vraiment tout ce qu’on peut et qu’on veut entendre quand on \u00e9coute un groupe de deathcore, et <\/span>Signs of the Swarm<\/span> le retranscrit \u00e0 merveille. L’encha\u00eenement \u00ab\u00a0<\/span>Dreamkiller<\/span>\u00a0\u00bb et \u00ab\u00a0<\/span>The Witch Bekons<\/span>\u00a0\u00bb est vraiment int\u00e9ressant. La premi\u00e8re aurait tendance \u00e0 \u00eatre le \u00ab\u00a0tube\u00a0\u00bb de l’album avec un refrain semi chant\u00e9, \u00e7a serait un bon moyen de communion avec le public si celle-ci \u00e9tait jou\u00e9e en live. La deuxi\u00e8me a une section rythmique digne des plus gros rouleaux compresseurs et c’est une de mes pr\u00e9f\u00e9r\u00e9es avec en guest <\/span>Matthew Heafy<\/span> de <\/span>Trivium<\/span>. Oui c’est un tr\u00e8s gros featuring en effet, mais paradoxalement, il n’est pas du tout mis en valeur : il y avait tellement de possibilit\u00e9s pour en faire une vraie claque, c’est dommage. Mais j’ai quand m\u00eame ador\u00e9 cette chanson. \u00ab\u00a0<\/span>Echelon<\/span>\u00a0\u00bb est une pure dose de vitamines core, et montre un peu plus le souhait du groupe de vouloir incorporer de nouvelles sonorit\u00e9s dans leur musique : et la fin de la chanson \u00ab\u00a0<\/span>Faces Without Names<\/span>\u00a0\u00bb en est le parfait exemple. On conclut l’album avec \u00ab\u00a0<\/span>Malady<\/span>\u00ab\u00a0, qui est particuli\u00e8rement tr\u00e8s r\u00e9ussie avec son ambiance malaisante (notamment sur sa fin). Une nouvelle fois le groupe innove dans leur style et propose quelque chose de tr\u00e8s travaill\u00e9.<\/span>

Finalement, que peut-on retenir de ce \u00ab\u00a0<\/span>Amongst the Low and Empty<\/span>\u00a0\u00bb ? Pour ma part, je le ressens comme l’album le plus abouti de la carri\u00e8re du groupe. Notamment gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 leur volont\u00e9 de se d\u00e9passer artistiquement en proposant des sonorit\u00e9s plus vari\u00e9es. J’\u00e9tais sceptique quant \u00e0 la qualit\u00e9 de cet album car moins de 2 ans le s\u00e9pare de leur dernier album. Mais ils ont relev\u00e9 le d\u00e9fi et ont r\u00e9ussi \u00e0 faire encore mieux\u2026 N\u00e9anmoins cet album ne changera pas la face du metal ou du deathcore en g\u00e9n\u00e9ral, mais en tant qu’amoureux du deathcore, c’est une franche r\u00e9ussite : l’\u00e9criture, la production et la volont\u00e9 du groupe \u00e0 aller encore plus loin est a soulign\u00e9.
