Apr\u00e8s avoir sorti un EP : \u00ab\u00a0Argent Moon<\/i><\/u>\u00a0\u00bb tr\u00e8s r\u00e9ussi en 2021 (par ici !<\/a>), dans un style tr\u00e8s \u00ab\u00a0pos\u00e9\u00a0\u00bb et majoritairement chant\u00e9, Insomnium <\/b>est de retour avec cette fois-ci un album : \u00ab\u00a0Anno 1696<\/i><\/u>\u00ab\u00a0. \u00c0 la vue de la pochette, je pense que l’on peut dire que l’album sera bien plus sombre. Si l’on se penche un peu sur l’histoire de la Finlande, les ann\u00e9es 1696-1697 font parties des pires de l’histoire du pays avec environ 30% de la population qui dispara\u00eet. Les sources d’inspirations sont donc multiples : famines, proc\u00e8s de sorcelleries, meurtres… Bref tout un joyeux programme pour produire un album de death m\u00e9lodique\/m\u00e9lancolique ! Allez, fon\u00e7ons ensemble dans la noirceur finlandaise du XVII\u00e8me si\u00e8cle !<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

L’album s’ouvre avec \u00ab\u00a01696<\/u>\u00ab\u00a0, qui annonce la couleur, en l’occurrence la m\u00eame que celle de la pochette : noir ! L’introduction nous am\u00e8ne directement au XVII\u00e8me si\u00e8cle avec une narration tr\u00e8s rauque qui nous transporte dans les for\u00eats sombres pour \u00ab\u00a0lancer\u00a0\u00bb vraiment le titre avec un bon gros blast <\/i>\u00e0 la batterie. L’horreur se ressent \u00e0 chaque note et ligne de chant, l’atmosph\u00e8re flirte avec le black metal<\/em>, sans jamais plonger compl\u00e9tement dedans, et toujours avec le m\u00e9lancolisme d’Insomnium<\/b>. Une chanson sublime ! Place \u00e0 \u00ab\u00a0White Christ<\/u>\u00a0\u00bb et le premier invit\u00e9 qui n’est nul autre que Sakis Tolis<\/i> de Rotting Christ<\/b> (\u00e7a ne s’invente pas). Je n’ai pas besoin de vous faire un topo sur les paroles, vous pouvez deviner assez facilement que \u00e7a pr\u00e9pare la chasse aux sorci\u00e8res ! Musicalement, c’est moins sombre, du pur Insomnium <\/b>tr\u00e8s r\u00e9ussi, l’alternance de chant avec Sakis Tolis<\/i> est bien faite.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

La seconde invit\u00e9e est une chanteuse finlandaise : Johanna Kurkela<\/i> qui gratifie \u00ab\u00a0Godforsaken<\/u>\u00a0\u00bb de chants \u00e0 la limite du \u00ab\u00a0tribal\u00a0\u00bb sur l’introduction et pendant le pont. Le titre renoue avec une ambiance tr\u00e8s sombre et des blasts beat<\/i>. C’est d’ailleurs le morceau le plus long de \u00ab\u00a0Anno 1696<\/u><\/i>\u00a0\u00bb avec plus de 8min30, qu’Insomnium<\/b> exploite \u00e0 fond avec des nombreux changements de tempo tr\u00e8s bien ma\u00eetris\u00e9s. \u00ab\u00a0Lilian<\/u>\u00a0\u00bb semble tout droit sorti du pr\u00e9c\u00e9dent EP \u00ab\u00a0Argent Moon<\/i><\/u>\u00ab\u00a0, moins sombre et avec un riff tr\u00e8s m\u00e9lancolique, tout ce que j’aime chez nos finlandais pr\u00e9f\u00e9r\u00e9s ! Je ne l’ai pas pr\u00e9cis\u00e9, mais l’album est inspir\u00e9 d’une nouvelle \u00e9crite par\u00a0Niilo Sev\u00e4nen<\/i>\u00a0 (bassiste et chanteur du groupe). Nous suivons dans \u00ab\u00a0Starless Paths<\/u>\u00a0\u00bb notre envoy\u00e9 de Dieu qui pourchasse une \u00ab\u00a0sorci\u00e8re\u00a0\u00bb dans la for\u00eat. Le morceau, classique pour du Insomnium<\/b>, prend toutefois plus d’ampleur dans sa seconde partie avec l’ajout de ch\u0153urs f\u00e9minins et de nappes de synth\u00e9tiseurs avec un tr\u00e8s bon solo de guitare.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

La chasse se poursuit pour lib\u00e9rer les terres du \u00ab\u00a0mal\u00a0\u00bb avec la capture de la sorci\u00e8re dans \u00ab\u00a0The Witch Hunter<\/u>\u00a0\u00bb qui propose des refrains en ch\u0153ur de chants clairs tr\u00e8s agr\u00e9ables. Paradoxalement, malgr\u00e9 les paroles, \u00ab\u00a0The Witch Hunter<\/u>\u00a0\u00bb est loin d’\u00eatre le titre de plus sombre de \u00ab\u00a0Anno 1696<\/i><\/u>\u00ab\u00a0. \u00ab\u00a0The Unrest<\/u>\u00a0\u00bb est un peu plus l\u00e9g\u00e8re et aborde la grossesse dans un couple pendant cette \u00e9poque troubl\u00e9e. Seul morceau sous les 4min, il est \u00e9galement le seul totalement acoustique et totalement en chants clairs. Il apporte un certain calme et une lueur d’espoir bienvenue avant de terminer par \u00ab\u00a0The Rapids<\/u>\u00ab\u00a0. Le morceau porte bien son nom, en effet \u00e7a va vite ! La premi\u00e8re moiti\u00e9 laisse de c\u00f4t\u00e9 l’ambiance m\u00e9lodique pour se concentrer sur le c\u00f4t\u00e9 death<\/em> de la musique : \u00e7a blast <\/i>et le tempo est tr\u00e8s \u00e9lev\u00e9. La seconde partie est plus vari\u00e9e dans ses ambiances et changements de tempo, dans un style plus classique d’Insomnium<\/b> ! Une tr\u00e8s bonne conclusion.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Insomnium<\/b>, avec \u00ab\u00a0Anno 1696<\/i><\/u>\u00a0\u00bb a choisi de prendre des risques et d’aller vers leur c\u00f4t\u00e9 le plus sombre. Force est de constater que c’est une r\u00e9ussite : le groupe sort de sa zone de confort, tout en gardant son identit\u00e9. Il n’y a pas de morceau moyen, et je vous invite \u00e0 lire les paroles et \u00e9couter \u00ab\u00a0Anno 1696<\/i><\/u>\u00a0\u00bb d’une traite pour profiter au maximum de l’exp\u00e9rience que nous propose les finlandais. Ils ont r\u00e9ussi le pari de nous raconter les moments d’histoire les plus sombres de leur peuple et de nous faire ressentir une partie de l’horreur de cette \u00e9poque. Chapeau messieurs !<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
