Depuis 1990, Esa Holopainen<\/em> est le guitariste principal du groupe de heavy metal finlandais Amorphis\u00a0<\/strong>; il est connu pour ses riffs innovants et ses ambiances ensorcelantes, et notamment dans les albums \u00ab\u00a0Tales From the Thousand Lakes<\/u><\/em>\u00a0\u00bb (1994), \u00ab\u00a0Elegy<\/u><\/em>\u00a0\u00bb (1996) ou encore \u00ab\u00a0Skyforger<\/u><\/em>\u00a0\u00bb (2009). Alors apr\u00e8s 30 ans de carri\u00e8re et encourag\u00e9 par le producteur Nino Laurenne<\/em>, la p\u00e9riode actuelle \u00e9tait s\u00fbrement le bon moment pour le guitariste de d\u00e9marrer un projet solo et de sortir son premier album. Esa est le genre d’artiste qui est sans cesse en cr\u00e9ation, il a donc compos\u00e9 des morceaux qui ne collaient pas \u00e0 son groupe principal, aussi bien que \u00ab\u00a0Sentiment<\/span>\u00a0\u00bb, \u00ab\u00a0Ray of Light<\/span>\u00a0\u00bb et \u00ab\u00a0Promising Sun<\/span>\u00a0\u00bb constituent la colonne vert\u00e9brale de ce premier opus. Tr\u00e8s vite la question s’est pos\u00e9e de savoir si le projet allait rester purement instrumental ou si allait \u00eatre renforc\u00e9 par un ou plusieurs chanteurs; Esa a alors fait appel \u00e0 des amis tel que Jonas Renkse<\/em> (Katatonia<\/strong>), H\u00e5kan Hemlin<\/em> (Nordman<\/strong>), ou encore Bj\u00f6rn \u2018Speed\u2019 Strid<\/em> (Soilwork<\/strong>). Tandis que dans Amorphis<\/strong> Esa n’est pas en charge de l’\u00e9criture des paroles, ici il a pris le taureau par les cornes pour composer quelques morceaux: ainsi ses lyrics \u00e9voquent des sujets vari\u00e9s comme les probl\u00e8mes de sant\u00e9 mentale ou la nature. L’album \u00e0 la pochette r\u00e9alis\u00e9e par Valnoir<\/em> du Studio<\/em> Metastazis<\/em> (qui pourrait presque reprendre l’esprit de celle de \u00ab\u00a0Harvest<\/u><\/em>\u00a0\u00bb de Neil Young<\/strong>) commence par le titre \u00e9ponyme qui n’est autre qu’une introduction instrumentale d\u00e9licate. Une entr\u00e9e en mati\u00e8re qui plonge l’auditeur directement dans l’univers du guitariste. On y retrouve des notes de guitares des ann\u00e9es 80 influenc\u00e9es par Dire<\/strong> Straits<\/strong> et faisant presque penser \u00e0 du Disturbed<\/strong> avec \u00ab\u00a0Storm<\/span>\u00a0\u00bb. Mais on y retrouve aussi de la douceur et de l’\u00e9motion gr\u00e2ce notamment au chant de Einar Solberg<\/em> de Leprous<\/strong> sur \u00ab\u00a0Ray of Light<\/span>\u00a0\u00bb, \u00e0 la participation f\u00e9minine de Anneke Van Giersbergen<\/em> accompagn\u00e9e de notes de synth\u00e9 sur \u00ab\u00a0Fading Moon<\/span>\u00a0\u00bb mais \u00e9galement gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 la pr\u00e9sence de guitares acoustiques sur \u00ab\u00a0Apprentice<\/span>\u00a0\u00bb qui cl\u00f4ture parfaitement l’\u00e9coute. Mais l’attention est retenue sur \u00ab\u00a0Alkusointu<\/span>\u00a0\u00bb et sur \u00ab\u00a0In her Solitude<\/span>\u00a0\u00bb. L’une est une sorte d’histoire parl\u00e9e par l’acteur et musicien Vesa-Matti Loiri<\/em>, \u00e0 l’introduction satur\u00e9e mais qui n\u00e9anmoins semble \u00eatre un appel au r\u00eave et \u00e0 l’\u00e9vasion. L’autre est un titre lourd, qui ne prend pas de pincettes et qui rentre directement dans le vif du sujet; ce titre devrait combler les fans inv\u00e9t\u00e9r\u00e9s d’Amorphis<\/strong>, puisqu’on y retrouve Tomi Joutsen<\/em> au chant. De ce fait, je ne suis pas surprise de ressentir de lointaines similitudes ici et l\u00e0! Pour conclure, \u00ab\u00a0Silver Lake<\/u><\/em>\u00a0\u00bb est un opus progressif qui rassemble 9 morceaux au son tant\u00f4t tr\u00e8s pop puis tant\u00f4t sacr\u00e9ment lourds. Malgr\u00e9 tout, les 37 minutes nous laissent un peu sur notre faim: on en redemanderai bien encore un petit peu. Mais Esa a confi\u00e9 que l’id\u00e9e d’un deuxi\u00e8me essai \u00e9tait certainement une chose tentante…<\/p>\n
