Aujourd’hui c’est retour aux temps b\u00e9nis du metalcore<\/em>, des \u00e9mos<\/em> et des m\u00e8ches! Rares sont les groupes de cette vague \u00e0 avoir surv\u00e9cu, on peut noter Heaven Shall Burn<\/strong>, Parkway Drive<\/strong> et donc As I Lay Dying<\/strong>. Je vais vous pr\u00e9senter un des meilleurs albums de ce style : \u00ab\u00a0An Ocean Between Us<\/em><\/span> \u00bb, sorti en 2007. C’est le 4\u00e8me album du groupe, qui marque l’arriv\u00e9e de Josh Gilbert<\/em> \u00e0 la basse et au chant clair. Le son global du CD est plus agressif, bien plus thrash <\/em>dans son ambiance tout en gardant le c\u00f4t\u00e9 tr\u00e8s m\u00e9lodique et les \u00ab\u00a0codes\u00a0\u00bb du genre.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Le CD est compos\u00e9 de 12 titres (dont une introduction et un petit interm\u00e8de instrumental) pour 43 minutes. Si vous connaissez un peu le groupe, et que vous avez suivi la derni\u00e8re tourn\u00e9e, vous verrez que \u00ab\u00a0An Ocean Between Us<\/em><\/span> \u00bb est aussi repr\u00e9sent\u00e9 que \u00ab\u00a0Shaped by Fire<\/em><\/span>\u00a0\u00bb dont la tourn\u00e9e fait la promotion! C’est un signe qui ne trompe pas! Apr\u00e8s l’introduction \u00ab\u00a0Separation<\/span>\u00ab\u00a0, on part sur 4 classiques du groupe : \u00ab\u00a0Nothing Left<\/span>\u00ab\u00a0, \u00ab\u00a0An Ocean Between Us<\/span>\u00ab\u00a0, \u00ab\u00a0Within Destruction<\/span>\u00a0\u00bb et \u00ab\u00a0Forsaken<\/span>\u00ab\u00a0. Dans le plus pur style metalcore<\/em>, avec leurs couplets growls <\/em>\/ scream<\/em>s, refrains en chant clair (exception faite de \u00ab\u00a0Within Destruction<\/span>\u00ab\u00a0) et leurs riffs tr\u00e8s influenc\u00e9s thrash<\/em>. Le tout d’une tr\u00e8s grande efficacit\u00e9, avec de refrains taill\u00e9s pour le live <\/em>(\u00ab\u00a0Nothing Left<\/span>\u00ab\u00a0, \u00ab\u00a0An Ocean Between Us<\/span>\u00ab\u00a0), sans tomber dans les facilit\u00e9s du style. On retrouve \u00e9galement deux chansons, un peu plus mid-tempo<\/em>, que sont \u00ab\u00a0I Never Wanted<\/span>\u00a0\u00bb et son ambiance assez m\u00e9lancolique, notamment sur son final tr\u00e8s r\u00e9ussi. Ainsi que le dernier titre \u00ab\u00a0This Is Who We Are<\/span>\u00a0\u00bb (sur ses refrains et la derni\u00e8re partie) qui conclut superbement cet album. Mais comment ne pas dire un mot sur LE titre, j’ai nomm\u00e9 \u00ab\u00a0The Sound Of Truth<\/span>\u00a0\u00bb avec son riff tranchant, m\u00e9lodique et son superbe refrain, classique indispensable des concerts d’As I Lay Dying<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Avec ce 4\u00e8me album, As I Lay Dying<\/strong> est pass\u00e9 dans une autre dimension pour devenir un poids lourd du metalcore<\/em>. Tout en restant dans les canons du style : alternance des chants, ponts, m\u00e9lodies… \u00ab\u00a0An Ocean Between Us<\/span>\u00a0\u00bb est ce que l’on pourrait appeler l’arch\u00e9type de ce que le metalcore <\/em>a de mieux \u00e0 proposer.<\/p>\n
