Depuis la sortie du ph\u00e9nom\u00e9nal \u201c<\/span>The Work<\/u><\/span><\/i>\u201d, il s’en est pass\u00e9 des choses dans le groupe: en effet, le frontman, membre fondateur du groupe a \u00e9t\u00e9 gentiment remerci\u00e9 et le deuxi\u00e8me guitariste, <\/span>Jonathan Topore<\/span><\/i>, a lui aussi quitt\u00e9 le navire. Mais face \u00e0 ces pertes, le groupe a recrut\u00e9 un membre de taille, <\/span>Andy Thomas<\/span><\/i>, initi\u00e9 \u00e0 la couronne noire. Pour ceux qui ne connaissent pas ce monsieur, c’est le principal compositeur et \u00e9galement chanteur du groupe, et il a un timbre unique en son genre et une technique musicale \u00e0 toute \u00e9preuve. <\/span>Mr Biggs<\/span><\/i> qui est le parolier et le bassiste du groupe et, qui accessoirement pousse la chansonnette et quelques growls, passe en frontman officiel du groupe. N’oublions pas \u00e9videmment, <\/span>Brody Uttley<\/span><\/i>, le compositeur du groupe qui reste dans ses fonctions pour notre plus grand bonheur. Bref, le groupe revient en 2025 avec leur album \u00e9ponyme, un album important et qui amorce une nouvelle \u00e9volution musicale. \u201c<\/span>The Work<\/u><\/span><\/i>\u201d avait pris \u00e0 contre pied tous les fans du groupe. C\u2019\u00e9tait un album bien plus calme, progressif et divers avec une prise de risque majeure. Inutile de vous dire que cet album \u00e9tait le point culminant du cycle initi\u00e9 par leur premier album et le final grandiose r\u00e9sonne encore dans ma t\u00eate. Preuve que le groupe n’a peur de rien et \u00e9volue de la mani\u00e8re dont ils veulent le faire. Un peu moins de 4 ans plus tard et un changement de line-up , le groupe revient avec leur album \u00e9ponyme et nous sommes en droit (et moi le premier) de nous demander o\u00f9 le groupe va nous amener cette fois-ci: reviendra-t-il aux sources avec leur death metal pur jus ou bien vont-ils pousser le bouchon encore plus loin dans la surprise?<\/span><\/p>\n

L’album s’ouvre sur \u201c<\/span>The Sub-orbital Blues<\/u><\/span>\u201d et le moins que l’on puisse dire c’est que le nouveau <\/span>Rivers of Nihil<\/b> est d\u00e9j\u00e0 en marche et pr\u00eat \u00e0 tout ravag\u00e9 sur son passage. <\/span>Avec ces nouvelles compositions, le groupe n’as pas une, ni deux mais bien TROIS forces vocales \u00e0 son actif, et les premi\u00e8res notes du refrain sont l\u00e0 pour l’attester. Le trio vocal compos\u00e9 du nouveau frontman <\/span>Adam<\/span><\/i>, du guitariste <\/span>Andy <\/span><\/i>et du batteur <\/span>Jared <\/span><\/i>fait des merveilles. Cette chanson r\u00e9gale aussi par ses guitares qui sont plus lourdes que d\u2019habitude, et un Jared plus incisif et technique que jamais. Cette ouverture est l’introduction parfaite pour conna\u00eetre et d\u00e9couvrir le \u00ab\u00a0nouveau\u00a0\u00bb Rivers of Nihil. Comme je le disais auparavant, le groupe n’a pas peur d’\u00e9voluer et de proposer quelque chose de nouveau \u00e0 chacune de ses sorties. Rappelons que c’est bien ce groupe qui a cass\u00e9 internet avec \u201c<\/span>The Silent Life<\/span>\u201d de l’album \u00ab\u00a0<\/span>Where Owls Know My Name<\/u><\/span><\/i>\u00a0\u00bb en y incorporant pour la premi\u00e8re fois un saxophone dans leur composition. Sur ces 10 nouvelles compositions, le groupe oscille entre 2 familles de compositions. La premi\u00e8re est du death metal pur jus ultra technique (notamment les morceaux \u201c<\/span>Dustman<\/u><\/span>\u201d, \u201c<\/span>Criminals<\/u><\/span>\u201d, \u201c<\/span>Evidence<\/u><\/span>\u201d et l\u2019\u00e9normissime \u201c<\/span>American Death<\/u><\/span>\u201d qui est devenue l’une de mes chansons pr\u00e9f\u00e9r\u00e9es de 2025. Un monument de death metal moderne), avec des riffs qui font mal, un Jared absolument monstrueux derri\u00e8re le kit et un Adam ultra charismatique en frontman. Bref, pour ceux et celles qui avaient peur de retrouver le groupe avec des compositions plus calmes encore, n’ayez pas peur, \u00e7a envoie du lourd. La deuxi\u00e8me famille, o\u00f9 le groupe prouve tout son talent de composition (avec \u201c<\/span>Despair Church<\/u>\u201d, \u201c<\/span>Water and Time<\/u><\/span>\u201d, \u201c<\/span>House of Light<\/u><\/span>\u201d et \u201c<\/span>The Logical End<\/u><\/span>\u201d), et qui est bien plus int\u00e9ressante musicalement. C\u2019est pour moi la plus grosse force de la nouvelle \u00e8re du groupe et celle o\u00f9 le groupe m\u00e9lange des compositions bien plus m\u00e9lodiques que par le pass\u00e9. L’ajout de voix claires d’<\/span>Andy Thomas<\/span><\/i> participe \u00e0 ce renouveau sonore du groupe.<\/span><\/p>\n

Le c\u0153ur de l’album avec \u201c<\/span>Despair Church<\/u><\/span>\u00ab\u00a0, \u00ab\u00a0<\/span>Water and Time<\/u><\/span>\u00a0\u00bb et \u00ab\u00a0<\/span>House of Light<\/u><\/span>\u00a0\u00bb est un coup\u00e9 le souffle. Les refrains sont ent\u00eatants, les \u00e9motions v\u00e9hicul\u00e9es par ses compositions sont bluffantes, la lourdeur des riffs, la technique chirurgicale et la beaut\u00e9 sonore de quelques passages accompagn\u00e9s par le saxophone (et oui, il est toujours l\u00e0): le groupe frappe vraiment tr\u00e8s tr\u00e8s fort dans tous les axes possibles. Bref c’est une nouvelle fois une sacr\u00e9e bonne surprise. L’album se conclut avec la chanson \u00e9ponyme, et malgr\u00e9 ces 3 petites minutes, il n\u2019en faut pas plus au groupe pour conclure de mani\u00e8re magistrale ce nouvel album.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c<\/span>Rivers of Nihil<\/u><\/span><\/i>\u201d est une sortie majeure de 2025, un groupe unique qui \u00e9volue sans cesse et qui pousse les limites du death metal. Cet album est et sera consid\u00e9r\u00e9 comme leur \u00ab\u00a0Black Album\u00a0\u00bb, une r\u00e9f\u00e9rence dans le genre et une r\u00e9f\u00e9rence pour le groupe. Rivers of nihil, avec ce nouveau line-up semble inarr\u00eatable et inoubliable du tr\u00f4ne du meilleur groupe de death metal moderne.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
